Mismanagement of funds: what is really happening at the MRC?

Set up by Maurice Kamto and his allies to help populations in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, several Cameroonians are wondering about the destination of the money collected with a lot of publicity.

At the beginning of April 2020, Maurice Kamto, the national president of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon, launched with his allies Survie Cameroon Survival Intiative. The politician affirmed by this act "to save" the Cameroonians in the fight against the coronavirus. As was to be expected, these Cameroonians from inside and out have put their hands in their pockets. Well-introduced sources spoke of more than 650,000 euros collected in record time. Almost three months later, some Cameroonians are wondering where the money is going.

“From there I see some 'mrcists' asking for Orca rice. With reason. They insinuate that this company's contribution to the fight against the covid-19 pandemic has been misused by the people in charge of distribution. I don't know what to say, since I'm not a fan of rice. On the other hand, what interests me is the direction of the money collected by the Survie Cameroun initiative led by Christian Penda Ekoka of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (Mrc) ”, writes Didier Ndengue, a Cameroonian journalist blogger on his Facebook page.

The state

Further on, Didier Ndengue persists and signs: “I do not know if this money made it possible to buy crates from certain executives of the Mrc while some of their comrades languish behind bars. I also want my part in it. Give my part on that!", The journalist quipped.

The journalist's concern is similar to that of several Cameroonians. Because for some time, there has been no communication around Survie Cameroon Survival Intiative. On the other hand, those who hold the state to account must also occasionally report to the people. Because although the money is that of a private initiative, it is the (public) people who contribute.
