Cameroon: Maurice Kamto draws the Minister of Justice

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Justice, the president of the MRC, Maurice Kamto requests that his activists suspected of being contaminated with Covid-19 be detected and taken care of.

The full note

It returned to us that six of the activists of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC) in detention in the main prison of Yaoundé show signs of Covid-19 infection.

In view of the serious threat that the Covid-19 pandemic poses to the lives of those infected, we would be grateful if you would order the emergency measures necessary to enable the competent services of the Ministry of Health to carry out activists involved testing for Coronavirus infection.

If for any reason it is not possible for you to have these tests carried out, we are prepared to do it ourselves under the supervision of the prison administration of course.

I take this opportunity to reiterate our request for urgent relief measures for humanitarian reasons, prisons in the country, generalized tests of Covid-19 in prisons and care for detained persons infected.

Please accept, Minister of State, the expression of my highest consideration.
