Coronavirus tension: universities closed in Yaoundé

A decision has just been made against the epidemic which has already killed more than 5,700 people worldwide. The preventive measure concerns the field of higher education. The University of Yaoundé 1 will observe a course stop in the classroom. The suspension begins on Tuesday, March 17 and ends on Monday, April 13, 2020. It is the main major resolution arising from the coordination meeting within this university structure yesterday, Monday, March 16. It was under the leadership of Maurice Aurelien Sosso, the rector of the establishment.

Being a doctor by training, Maurice Aurelien Sosso knows the risks of coronavirus. He does not want to take any risks in the face of the epidemic. This is the reason why he so decided in the structure at his charge.

During the coordination meeting, it was also decided that the grandes écoles of the University of Yaoundé 1 experience the same judgment. These are the Ecole Normale Supérieure, the Ecole Normale Supérieure de l'Enseignement Technique, the Ecole Nationale Polytechnique, the University Institute of Wood and the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

As for other measures, a scientific and monitoring committee has been set up, handwashing devices will be installed, film screenings and shows have been suspended. Several other decisions have also been made.

From memory, Cameroon recorded 5 cases of coronavirus from 06 to 16 March last, that is to say in 15 days. The good news, for now, is that the first two cases detected are already cured, but are still in hospital. The other three are still under observation.

Dr Manouada Malachie, the Minister of Public Health invites his compatriots to continue to mobilize and follow the rules of hygiene. But above all do not give in to panic.
