Coronavirus in the USA: the conference on the Anglophone Crisis postponed

The Coalition for Dialogue and Negotiation (CDN), has concluded consultations with local Washington DC health officials and the George Washington University event management team on the continued spread of COVID-19 and the prospect of to hold the international conference of three (3) days on the Armed Conflict in the South of Cameroon "at George Washington University from March 19 to 21, 2020. By first putting the security of all participants, the Coalition announces by the presents its decision to postpone the conference from June 18 to 20, 2020 at the same location. During this time, the working groups will continue to meet and deliberate.

The Coalition also assessed current measures, including online courses and homework, taken by various universities and corporate institutions in the United States and around the world, restricting staff travel and, in some cases, of their families. These bailouts affect the ability of many conference participants to travel to the United States and around the world to the United States. As we closely monitor developments in the actions taken by the United States and other governments, we will continue to give impetus to the conference as well as maintain pressure for the international community to aggressively commit to end the ongoing armed conflict in southern Cameroon.

Continued fighting in southern Cameroon has reportedly killed more than 12,000 people since 2017, arbitrary arrests and the imprisonment of southern Cameroonians. The government of Cameroon has reported the killing of at least 700 of its security forces and administrative staff. More than 300 villages have been razed to the ground, forcing more than 900,000 people to move and more than 60,000 to seek refuge in other countries, including Nigeria and the United States. It is estimated that one million children have not been able to go to school in the past three years, and about 1.9 million are severely hungry. Several attempts by the government of Cameroon to end the armed conflict without addressing the root causes continue to fail.

The Coalition will keep you informed of all new information relating to this armed conflict and to the international conference. The conference website will also be updated regularly. Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you in June 2020. We are deeply sorry for any inconvenience this delay may cause you. cause.
