Samuel Eto'o 'African arbitrators do not have a bank account'

Retired since September 2019, Samuel Eto'o collaborates with the CAF (African Football Confederation). The African legend was shown to be irritated after the proposal of Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA to organize the CAN every four years. He showed his position during a debate on RFI a few days ago.

During this broadcast, Eto'o, who participates in some CAF meetings, shared his confidence on how CAF paid African referees after the matches of its competitions. Former Lich Pichichi reveals that some African referees did not have a bank account number. This forced CAF to opt for a method of payment that was not very transparent.

“President Issa Hayatou has managed CAF with everything that surrounds Africa. This is why I congratulate Fatma (Fatma Samba Diouf Samoura), the Secretary of FIFA. She is under the orders of CAF when she comes to Africa and she has made many reforms. Before, the CAF spent a lot of money in cash to pay the arbitrators who did not have bank accounts, reveals Samuel Eto'o on RFI. There are African referees and even match commissioners who do not have account numbers. We are Africans and we love cash. Africans feel like they are seeing their money and touching it. It is, after all, a matter of trust. We ended up (at CAF) and several African arbitrators did not have bank accounts where we could make a transfer where there is traceability.
