End of year speech: Kamto defeat Biya on facebook in audience

We estimate at several thousand, the number of Cameroonians who were massively connected on their tablets or smartphones to listen to the national president of the MRC. It was in his end of year speech to the Nation.

237actu.com found that more than 15,000 people were connected to Maurice Kamto's official Facebook page, just 10 minutes after starting his address.

A comparative observation on Facebook, in real time, therefore gives Maurice Kamto at least 5 times as popular as President Paul Biya, who also addressed the Nation, through classic and social media.

However, we can put it in perspective, indicating that the rate of internet penetration in Cameroon remains low, recently estimated at 35% by the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC). Sufficient to understand that a good frank of the population followed the speech of the Head of State on television or on the radio.

Moreover, for a population estimated at 26 million inhabitants, and according to the social media management tool Hootsuite, Cameroon has 6 million Internet users, only 3.6 million use Facebook permanently.
