Church: Mgr Samuel Kleda withdraws Cardinal Tumi from prayers

Mgr Samuel Kleda, the metropolitan archbishop of Douala, made this decision public by a decree published on January 22.

Cardinal Christian Tumi will no longer be cited during Eucharistic prayers. In a related decree, Mgr Kleda mentions that Cardinal Christian Tumi enjoys "a special privilege, that of the metropolitan archbishop, in the part reserved for intercessions during the Eucharistic prayer after the metropolitan archbishop".

From this date, wrote Mgr Samuel Kleda, who also the president of the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon (Cenc) "I decided to mark an end to this particular practice".

“In reality, in Eucharistic prayer, those who are named by name are the Pope and the local bishop. We do not often quote those who are distinguished (title attributed to a bishop who resigned from his office for reasons of age, health or other, Editor's note). However, the local bishop, since he is the patron of the diocese, may allow the emeritus to be cited or decide that it should not be cited. It is within its rights, ”explains a priest to our colleagues at StopBlacam.
