Cameroon: Paul Biya designates the replacement for Cavaye Yéguié

The name of the current vice-president insists on holding the presidency.

Credible sources announce a redistribution of political cards in the Far North after the legislative and municipal elections on February 9. And the name of the current vice-president comes back insistently to occupy the presidency of the lower house.

Within the seraglio, he has been insisting for several days that the President of the Republic will redistribute the cards after the legislative and municipal elections on February 9. According to well-introduced sources, the announced redeployment of personnel in the state apparatus will notably upset the political balances in the Far North. According to reliable indiscretions, the presidency of the National Assembly, held by Cavaye Yéguié Djibril for 28 years, should then escape to the Far North to fall to Adamawa.

And in this hypothesis, a name keeps coming up to replace the native of Mada: Théophile Baoro. Who also has the advantage as the current president of the National Assembly (PAN) of knowing the house well. This member of the CPDM Political Bureau has been walking the corridors of the National Assembly for four terms. The principal inspector of financial management is also one of the vice-presidents of the Lower House of Parliament.

He represents a figurehead of the presidential party in Adamawa, a bastion region of the CPDM but who has always considered himself injured in the division of the fraction of the national cake returning to the Far North. “The electorate is acquired, because we in Mbéré, apart from the misstep of 1992, since 1997 we are with the Rdpc. Better still, from 2002 to 2007 all the deputies of Mbéré were of the Rdpc ”, he recalls.

“What makes him on the President's shelves is that he is intellectual in relation to Cavaye. And like the latter, he does not have a national fabric and no presidential ambition is known to him ", believes a political actor boasting of a good knowledge of the Cameroonian political microcosm, and even more of the north.

Above all, the current President of the National Assembly is no longer in the good graces of the President of the Republic. The proof: for at least two years, Cavaye Yéguié Djibril has not been received in audience by Paul Biya. The PAN does not digest it and makes it known, at least in small groups. It is with this in mind that he ordered a loincloth in his effigy for the electoral campaign which opens in a few hours. An unprecedented fact in the political annals of Cameroon. In addition, according to his close entourage, lately his health has been declining. He did not escape those who came to welcome him on his arrival in the Far North a few days ago that the PAN was having all the trouble in the world to walk.
