Cameroon: Court resumes hearing on Soldiers trial on January 20, 2020

The seven Cameroonian soldiers accused of killing two women and their babies in the Far North region of Cameroon will now be tried in camera as they wish.

The decision was made public on Monday, December 16, 2019 by the Yaoundé Military Tribunal at the request of the accused.

They were arrested last year after the release of a video showing them killing women and their babies in 2015 in the Far North region. They suspected the women of having links with Boko Haram.

The seven soldiers, including a lieutenant, pleaded not guilty of complicity in several public hearings for murder, violation of the regulations and conspiracy.

According to reports, when the video went viral in 2018, authorities denied having been filmed in Cameroon, but investigations by international NGOs, including Amnesty International media, revealed that the video had been filmed in Cameroon and gave details of the perpetrators

The trial of these seven soldiers resumes on January 20, 2020.
