ELECAM rejects Cabral Libii and Paul Éric Kingué request

There will be no extra time for candidates who have not been able to file on time at ELECAM.

This is the main information to remember from the meeting of the electoral council of the body in charge of elections, held this Friday, November 29, 2019 in Yaounde.

Enow Abrams Egbe, the boss of the council, told reporters that ELECAM will publish in ten days, the final list of candidates selected for parliamentary and municipal elections of 9 February 2020.

The body has rejected the request formulated by Cabral Libii, leader of the PCRN (Cameroon Party for National Reconciliation) and Paul Éric Kingué, president of the MPCN (Patriotic Movement for a New Cameroon).

The two opponents urged ELECAM to grant, exceptionally, a 15-day deadline to candidates who had problems on the ground in the constitution of their various files. They denounce, among other things, the impediments sought by certain authorities with a view to favoring the CPDM, the party in power.

Cabral Libii has already warned that he could boycott elections if his request is not taken into consideration.

"In the absence of such a measure, aimed at rebalancing the political game, the PCRN could resolve to no longer participate in the elections of February 9, 2020," he told the press on November 28.

It remains to be seen if the ex-presidential candidate will put his threat into effect.
