December 30, 1982: this 'secret' letter Paul Biya sends to Ahidjo

06 NOV 1982 - 06 NOV 2016. This correspondence of the current head of state to his predecessor is dated December 30, 1982.

As it has been the case for several years, it is with overwhelming joy that the militants of the ruling party, the Democratic Rally of the Cameroonian People (Rdpc), will celebrate November 06, 2019, the anniversary of the accession to the supreme office of their champion, Paul Biya, 37 years already that it reigns over Cameroon.

In the general jubilation, no word for the predecessor of the current head of state, Ahmadou Ahidjo, the very one who voluntarily gave him power on November 6, 1982. The militants of the Rdpc, in a contagious self-censorship, behave as if this part of history had miraculously disappeared memories, as if the two men had never known each other, had never appreciated.

Yaounde December 30, 1982

Mr. President,

At the dawn of the new year, I respectfully extend to you my best wishes for health, happiness and prosperity for 1983 for you, your family and all your loved ones.

The words, Mr. President, are powerless to translate with fidelity and the necessary force the deep feelings of gratitude and gratitude of Cameroon for the colossal work done masterfully to you, for the benefit of the Cameroonian nation.

I will strive, as far as I am concerned, to remain faithful to what seems to me to be the essence of your teachings: a passion for national unity, a cult of the State, a jealous defense of the sovereignty of Cameroon, and the welfare of all. to be of its inhabitants.
