Obituary: Father Anthony of Padua Chonang committed suicide

The news was revealed after a statement addressed to the priests, deacons,  religious sisters and employees of the diocese to Announce the death of Abbot Antoine de Padoue Chonang who was also the former editor of the newspaper Effort camerounais. Father ebbot was reported to have killed himself on Monday morning in St Marcellin, as we have learned.

The late abbot had been in France for a long time already to continue his care.

Below is the whole of the communique as received ...

Dear brothers priests, dear brothers deacons, dear religious sisters, dear employees of the diocese,

I have the great pain to have to announce to you the death of the father Antoine de Padoue Chonang, priest of the archdiocese of Douala.

He killed himself this morning in St Marcellin. I ask the priests to celebrate a mass for him, to the religious communities to celebrate, if possible, the service of the dead in the breviary, and to all the Christians who have been able to meet him to unite in prayer.

After the French legal proceedings, it will be to his bishop of incardination, Bishop Samuel Kleda, whom I warned, to discern, with his family, for the future, as a celebration on Gap of a funeral mass and the place of his burial.

We were in good agreement with Bishop Kleda, who had ordered him to return home, since August 31, 2016, to give him a new mission.

We knew he was in medical treatment, without knowing the current situation.
