Political chaos: Paul Biya obtains international support

Switzerland has reiterated its willingness to support the country of Paul Biya in resolving the crisis of the North West and Southwest regions.

Switzerland's ambassador to Cameroon, Pietro Lazzeri, and President Paul Biya had a tête-à-tête yesterday at the Palace of Unity.

"The Swiss Ambassador indicated that the talks focused on bilateral cooperation issues with a particular focus on the socio-political situation in the North-West and South-West regions as well as the evaluation of Barry Callebaut's activities. which has contributed for several decades to the development of Cameroon? ", state media report Crtv reported, noting that the Swiss diplomat has reiterated the will of his country to support Cameroon in finding solutions to the situation in the North -West and Southwest, stating that: "to Cameroonian problems there are solutions Cameroonian?".

In a hearing with Paul Biya on 4 April, Pietro Lazzeri had already stated that Cameroon could count on Switzerland's reputation for linguistic and cultural diversity and its international neutrality.Pietro Lazzeri added that contacts initiated between the Swiss authorities and officials of the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism in Cameroon will be strengthened.

Geneva support comes at a time when Yaoundé is facing real international pressure. For the first time, and at the request of the United States, the separatist conflict in the two English-speaking regions was discussed at the United Nations on May 13. The Cameroonian authorities fear that the situation will escape further, and open the doors to intervention.
