Cameroon Crisis: Defense Minister accuses secessionists of disconnecting Bakassi from national telecommunications network

The plenary session of oral questions to members of the government on behalf of the first regular session of the 2019 legislative year, began this Friday, March 22, 2019 at the Ngoa-Ekele hemicycle in Yaoundé.

One of the concerns of the people's elected representatives was the lack of a national telecommunications network in Bakassi, a peninsula in the South West Region bordering Nigeria. An MP noted that it is impossible to make telephone contact with a fellow citizen living in Bakassi.

Responding to the parliament's concern, the defense minister, who oversaw the military engineering company that had won the tower construction market, explained that the installation of the relay pylons has been completed for two years. He also said that Camtel and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, which were in charge of connecting Bakassi to the national grid, also fulfilled their specifications. But, all connections have been sabotaged by secessionists, says the defense minister.

Remember that the South West and North West Regions have been facing a civil war for three years.
