Vision4: Ernest Obama, Nadine Patricia suspended

Vision 4, a private television station headquartered in Yaoundé that falsely announced the death of Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba, who was hospitalized in Saudi Arabia, was suspended Wednesday for a month, the Cameroonian media regulator said. .

"Following the publication in the October 27, 2018 news bulletin of an unfounded declaration announcing the death of the President of the Republic of Gabon", the National Council of Communication (CNC), "decided to suspend for a period of one month the chain (...) Vision 4 ", said the CNC in a statement.

In this text read on the state radio, the CNC says to have "noted the lack of respect" by this chain "professional requirements of investigation and overlap in the treatment of information".

At the end of October, Vision 4 had already been suspended for six months in Gabon for the same reasons.

The Gabonese president, aged 59, was hospitalized on October 24 in Ryad, following a cerebral vascular accident (CVA). He was transferred in late November to Morocco to continue his convalescence and rehabilitation.

On Wednesday, the CNC also suspended for a month a journalist in the chain for "dissemination of statements inciting tribal hatred."

The CNC has already sanctioned Vision 4 journalists without any action.

The promoter of the channel, Jean-Pierre Amougou Belinga, is deemed close to the Cameroonian Minister of Justice Laurent Esso, never respected the decisions of this regulatory body. He has already sentenced his president Peter Essoka to six months in prison.

Ernest Obama, director of Vision, meanwhile is suspended for "broadcast of incitement to tribal hatred" on the show Club D'Elite. He also receives a month's suspension.

In addition, Michael Dopasse, a journalist with "Soleil FM", has been suspended for two months as well as his "sport and investigation" show. The journalist who is accused by Samuel Eto'o of defamation, has been jailed without being tried for a few weeks at the central prison of Yaoundé - Kondengui for the same reasons.
