TCS: former DG sentenced to 35 years in prison


Achille Zogo Andela was sentenced last Wednesday to 35 years imprisonment and 58 billion CFA francs fine by Special Criminal Court. The former CEO of the Cameroon Maritime Leasing Company (SCLM) was accused of misappropriation of public funds.

The State of Cameroon criticized him for illegally exploiting a fleet of fishing vessels whose management returned to the SCLM on behalf of the State. The Government had made shrimp boats, built by Spanish shipyards, available to the company and which the State had acquired following a credit of $ 40 million granted by the Institute of Commercial Real Estate (ICO) of the United Kingdom. Spain, reports the pan-African newspaper Jeune Afrique that followed this trial.

Achille Zogo Andela, held since 2011 in the central prison of Yaoundé-Kndengui, this trial took place in his absence, because hospitalized in emergency following the brutal deterioration of his state of health
