Sparrowhawk: 30 managers of the public fortune summoned

In Cameroon, the hawk operation, resumed service on November 27, 2018. 


It is in this context that 30 managers of the public fortune, are convened on Tuesday before the Council of Budget and Financial Discipline (Cdbf) housed higher control of State.

Managers summoned must explain their management of public wealth.

Generally, the reports of the Cdbf lead to legal proceedings before the Yaounde Special Criminal Court (TCS) for embezzlement of public funds.

"Sparrowhawk" is a vast operation of consolidation of public finances launched in 2006 by the Cameroonian authorities under the pressure of the donors to fight against corruption.

Since its launch, former Prime Ministers, Ministers and Secretaries-General of the Presidency, Directors General of public and para-public companies, executives and State agents have been arrested, tried and sometimes sentenced to heavy penalties. imprisonment for misappropriation of public funds.

Several institutions have been created to fight corruption. This is the case of the Anti-Corruption Commission (Conac) whose main mission is to fight against financial crime.

Green numbers have been created to speed up frauds in the civil service and fight corruption.

Some accuse President Biya of exploiting "Sparrowhawk" to eliminate potential political rivals.
