Results of the presidential election: Imams say no to Maurice Kamto

The Cameroonian Council of Imams, Mosques and Islamic Affairs (Cocima) is firm. In the statement signed by its president Prof. Ibrahim Mubarak Mbombo, the Cocima strongly condemns the fact that a political party that took part in the 2018 presidential election proclaims itself winner. He calls for the respect of the laws of Cameroon and recalls that only the Constitutional Council is entitled to give the results of the poll of 7 October 2018 and this, 15 days after the vote.

The Cocima asks everyone to take into account the fragile situation in which Cameroon is located. He asks everyone to be more mature so as not to undermine the social cohesion and peace of Cameroon.

This release of Cocima follows the press conference given today by Maurice Kamto candidate of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (Mrc). During the said conference, Kamto declared himself the winner of the election of 7 October 2018.

"I was sent to shoot the penalty, I shot it and I scored it. I have received from the people a clear mandate that I intend to defend to the end. I urge the outgoing president to work for a peaceful transition of power, "he said.
