Etoudi 2018: risk of implosion, here are the security measures taken

The government has tightened security at almost all crossroads in Yaoundé, in anticipation of the official announcement of the results of the October 7 presidential election.

This is in accordance with Article 137 of the Cameroonian Electoral Code which states: "The Constitutional Council shall adopt and proclaim the results of the presidential election within a maximum period of fifteen (15) days from the closing of the poll."

The president of this council, Clement Atangana, designated Monday, October 22, 2018 the day of the proclamation of the results of the October 7th poll.

As tension rises in Cameroon's major cities in anticipation of the announcement of the results, the tight control of identity cards is currently intensifying in the streets of Yaoundé, Cameroon's political capital.

To this day, in some places like Obili, Carrefour MECC, Green City, Melen, Carrière and many others, police and riot police could be seen stationed at proximity, according to the residents of these neighborhoods. Identity cards are systematically checked.

On Saturday night, patrol cars from the National Gendarmerie were sighted around the Obili Chapel and other areas.
