Ngolbang: serious accident of the caravan of the Grand Prix Chantal Biya

The bus carrying riders from the teams of Rwanda, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast made a road exit in a bend and overturned.


A traffic accident took place on September 29, 2018 in the caravan of the Chantal Biya International Cycling Grand Prix, around 10.30am at a place called "Memiam" on the Mbalmayo-Zoetele (Ngolbang) axis.

A bus of "Coaster" type carrying riders from the teams of Rwanda, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast made a road exit in a bend and overturned, making 17 victims immediately transported by emergency Caravan ambulances at the Mbalmayo District Hospital where they were cared for by a team of doctors and nurses.

According to the doctors who carried out radiology on the victims, 15 runners, one (01) race commissioner and one (01) driver were victims.

The President of the Cameroon Cycling Federation and President of the Central Organizing Commission of the 18th edition of the Grand Prix International Cyclist Chantal Biya Porte immediately issued a press release to inform the situation.

According to this release, no deaths have been recorded, the days of the victims are not in danger. Victims suffer minor injuries and radiology performed on victims is not serious.

It is also learned that the Rwandan and Burkinabé teams left the hospital and returned to Yaoundé for observation. The Ivorian team has decided to continue the competition. The race commissioner Damien Tekou victim in this accident remains under medical observation. His days are not in danger.
