Ambassador Attack: Russia demands security for diplomats

The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Cameroon, His Excellency Anatoly Bashkin, has written to the nation’s Minister of External Relations, demanding for the security of persons accredited to different diplomatic missions in Cameroon to be stepped up.

Ambassador Bashkin in a letter dated Monday, September 10, disclosed that on Sunday, August 9,2018, armed men attacked and wounded him on the esplanade of the Mon Febe Hotel in the nation’s capital Yaounde.

In the letter bearing the symbols of the Russian Federation, the Ambassador expressed the wish that the Cameroonian authorities will do all in their power to ensure the security of diplomats.

In the same diplomatic piece, the Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary is praying Cameroon to find and arrest the authors of the attack.

The Ambassador’s letter makes public that, there is need to step up the security of diplomats and employees of different diplomatic missions in the country.

Despite the request for security, the diplomat expressed renewed confidence in the relationship between Cameroon and Russia. Sunday’s attack is a rare occurrence in Cameroon against a top diplomat in recent times.
