Alert: secessionists reported in Yaoundé (confidential note)

A dormant cell of secessionist fighters is currently reported to be in Yaounde, the Cameroonian capital. This is in any case what specifies a confidential note of the Minister Joseph Beti Assomo addressed to the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces.

According to the note, these secessionist fighters have found refuge in homes in some areas of Yaounde as Obili, Biyem-Assi, Etoug Ebé and their surroundings.

"They would aim to commit actions bursts on targets with high added value and some sensitive targets of the capital on 1 and October 07," says the note.

The defense minister has also instructed the chief of staff to take necessary measures to "flush out and incapacitate terrorists and their accomplices".

A few days before the opening of the electoral campaign, this new secessionist threat risks creating psychosis among the population.

It should be noted that Yaoundé, the political capital of Cameroon, had until then been spared by secessionist attacks in the north-west and south-west regions for almost a year.

More than 400 civilians and about a hundred members of the army have been killed in clashes between the army and secessionists since October 2017.
