Cameroon To Recruit 2600 Elite Commandos

Paul Biya Launches Recruitment Of 2600 Elite Commandos To Be Training By An Israeli General After The Death Of 108 Soldiers Killed In Clashes Between Army And Separatists.

The Cameroonian Presidential Guard will see its staff increased in the coming days. This can be deduced from a confidential memo from the Ministry of Defense, a copy of which has reached the editorial board of CamerounWeb.

According to this note dated August 24, a special recruitment of 2600 elite commandos will be carried out for the benefit of the Presidential Guard and the Rapid Intervention Battalion (BIR). According to a presidential source, this recruitment would be a recommendation from an Israeli general who is Paul Biya's military advisor.

This recruitment comes in a particular context marked by the presidential election scheduled for October 7 and insecurity in the North West and South West regions. According to military sources, at least 108 soldiers have been killed in clashes between the army and separatist fighters for nearly a year.
