2018 Presidential Election: Kamto slams Cabral Libii for coalition snub

JDC | The President of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement party, Maurice Kamto has slammed Cabral Libii Libii for snubbing an attempt to form a coalition of opposition parties ahead of the Presidential election scheduled for October 7.

Both Maurice Kamto and Cabral Libii have submitted their files at the elections management body, Elecam to run for the Presidential election amidst calls for a coalition of opposition parties.

However, Kamto says he has made moves to bring the opposition under one umbrella though some have been receptive while others have failed to embrace the move.

“Keen observers of the Cameroon political scene know that I am the first person to have made a move to the others for a coalition,” Maurice Kamto said on Wednesday during a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Odza, Yaounde

“I met with the various leaders of political parties and civil society groups, notably the flagbearer of the SDF(Joshua Osih) and the leader of the Now(Movement, Akere Muna),” Kamto added.

He however expressed his frustration at being snubbed by the leader of the “11 million Citizens” movement, Cabral Libii who has since been invested as the candidate of the Univers party for the Presidential election.

“I had an appointment with the leader of the ’11 million citizens’ whom I waited for the whole day but he failed to show up and has since not reached out to us till date but I remain open to the idea of forming a winning coalition,” Kamto said.

He added that other political parties have accepted to form a coalition with them but will only reveal their identities once Elecam must have published the final list of candidates retained for the Presidential election.
