Security Forces Arrested And Detained For Torturing Anglophones In The Two English-speaking Region Of Cameroon

JDC| The Prosecutor at the Yaounde military tribunal Engono Thadée confimed to that these elements will appear before the military court in the days ahead to answer charges against them.

They were placed behind bars after amateur video emerged of them torturing civilians in the two English speaking regions of Cameroon.

Amongst them are gendarme officers who forced two ladies to crawl in mud in a scene reportedly filmed in Bali in the North West Region of Cameroon. The video which was filmed with a mobile phone and first appeared on the internet early this month and was picked up by the local and international media drew widespread condemnation from the population and rights groups.

Another set of gendarmerie officers under detention are those who were filmed torturing an alleged “ambazonia general” in the South West Region of Cameroon, Engono Thadée gtold

These officers were all arrested and detained after the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence Joseph Beti Assomo ordered for an investigation into the alleged crimes committed by the officers.

Measures have equally benn taken to restrict security officers from using mobile phones during operations as well as posting on social media. also learnt of cases of various security forces in detention for various rights violation after they were denounced by civilians or rights groups notably Amnesty International.

However, the prosecutor stopped short of giving out the names of the soldiers in detention but said they will soon appear before the court to answer charges brought before them.
