Cameroon - The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs talks about the Anglophone crisis: "France pays close attention to the situation in Cameroon, a friend and partner country"


On the occasion of the traditional weekend press briefing at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Paris, Romain Vuillaume, deputy spokesman for Africa, was asked about the role that France can play in try to calm the situation in Cameroon's English-speaking region, which continues to deteriorate.

"France is paying close attention to the situation in Cameroon, a friend and partner country. We expressed our concern after the October incidents in the English-speaking areas, which resulted in several casualties. We have also condemned recent crimes against law enforcement officials. We call all actors to restrain and reject violence.We encourage the resolution of tensions through dialogue, with a view to responding, in a peaceful and concerted manner, to the concerns of all parties while respecting the unity and integrity of the country. This is not the first time France has taken a stand on the crisis that has been bogging down for more than a year in the South-West and North-West Regions. The former mother country of Cameroon, has always called on all parties to restrain, stop violence and dialogue.

On the website of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it is recalled that France has an important security and defense cooperation with Cameroon, which focuses on training, particularly in the framework of national schools with a regional vocation such as the International War College (ESIG) of Yaounde.
