Cameroon: France to give €500 million for humanitarian aid in Cameroon by 2022

Accompanying France in the implementation of the Emergency Humanitarian Assistance Plan for the North-West Regions and South West was reaffirmed by his ambassador to Cameroon, HE Gilles Thibault. It was last week during the meeting with the Minister of Territorial Administration.

Yesterday, after a hearing with the Minister Delegate to the MINREX in charge of Cooperation with the Islamic World, Adoum Gargoum, Secretary of State to the French Minister of Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, confirmed it.

Indeed, reports Cameroon Tribune of Friday, June 29, 2018, in response to the question of the press, the host of Cameroon said that France is already acting in humanitarian matters alongside the Cameroonian authorities.

"The French head of state wanted to increase France's commitment in this area, with more than 500 million euros to be spent by 2022. This is part of the new strategy in humanitarian and vulnerability . I therefore commend the action and the means put in place by the Cameroonian authorities to provide concrete answers on the ground, "said Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne.

Recall that in 2017, the total humanitarian aid from France to Cameroon amounts to more than 1.8 billion FCFA (2.8 million euros), not counting the regional contribution to UNHCR's actions of 1, 6 billion FCFA (2.3 million euros). 75% of this humanitarian aid is dedicated to food assistance.

In addition to humanitarian aid, health plays a major role in cooperation between the two countries. Indeed, France, one of the first partners of the health sector in Cameroon, has allocated to the country a grant of 189 billion FCFA (288 million euros) for the period 2015/2017 via the Global Fund. This same allocation for the period 2018/2021 amounts to 189 billion FCFA (164 million euros).

In addition, with the GAVI Alliance, CFAF 120 billion (€ 184 million) has been disbursed since 2001 for the financing of 80% of the Expanded Program on Immunization of the Ministry of Public Health.
